3 - Kate L'Heureux

I shared the Gmail inbox for my second blog posting:

I think the design team's motivation for creating the tab and search feature for navigating through mail lies behind their desire to create something comforting for the users. A lot of Google's designs are at their core comfortable to use. They provide and display information in the most comfortable, organized way possible. The reason I describe their "why" as comfort driven is because mail can be a chaotic and messy thing, especially online. However, the design team manages to create comfort for the users by providing an easy to use system of mail organization for the user, providing the quickest and most efficient way to track and search through thousands of emails; thats the "how". The "what" is gmail's categorization of different types of mail and the search bar which allows for quick searches or advanced search by clicking the downturned arrow in the right-hand corner.

My interpretation of Gmail's purpose or cause for these features all lie behind the comfort. As mentioned in the TED talk, there are many email accounts out there that do basically the same thing, however, Gmail stands out because their design and the "why" behind it.

  1. This is great. You really focused on the experience of comfort and how the gmail team works. Maybe you can apply what you learned here to your projects.
