3- Grant Pendrey

Google.com and more specifically their main search bar is my obvious design of focus. The search bar is a feature of the website that is intended to be used by all users of various ages and languages. The google brand and its products have various functions and capabilities but the search bar is a feature implemented into almost every google feature. Due to the fact that it is so widely used and critical to understanding/using google.com,  it must be intuitive while also being complex.

The real question is why is the search bar the best design for this website. As I touched upon in last weeks post, the search bar allows for numerous capabilities built into one design feature. One having one feature decreases clutter and creates a very intuitive design. All interactions, beyond the specific actions presented on a page, are prompted through the search bar. As well, this allows for the user to type in exactly what they are thinking in an sentence format. Being able to write in sentence format allows for a very intuitive interaction with the search bar because the user can quickly understand how to interact with it. This quick interaction creates loyal users to the search engine. Not only do loyal users to the search engine increase revenue for the website through their adds, it may also creates a higher likelihood of users using google's other features which is always a goal for a website.

  1. Good Insights. You should also compare this to yahoo.com, lycos.com, and altavista compares how clean the website is. I think it's also telling how little the website has changed since 1998. However, one thing you should be careful of is the word "Best." There is nothing in this world that is perfect and even the design team for google.com are always discussing on how to improve their design
